Great Mixer!

I wanted to replace my 25+ year-old KitchenAid mixer. There was nothing wrong with it, but I had remodeled my kitchen and the color of the old mixer didn't match any of the new appliances. I fully intended to purchase another KitchenAid until I received the issue of Cook's Magazine that included reviews of stand mixers. After considering the magazine's recommendation and doing some additional research, I purchased the 5.5 Quart Cuisinart. I've owned a variety of other Cuisinart products, so figured I couldn't go too wrong! I really enjoy this mixer! I cook/bake a variety of things and from breads to cookies, cakes and fudge, to mashed potatoes and whipped cream, I have had great results. The timer is particularly handy when I'm multi-tasking (holidays!) in the kitchen or if a less experienced cook is doing the work. When I purchased the mixer, I received a coupon for the blender attachment. I rarely use a blender except for frozen margaritas, but it does a great job on them, crushing the ice with no apparent strain on the motor. The "fold" setting is also very handy for those delicate items. I'm not thrilled with the splash guard - I think putting it on and taking it off is awkward - and when it's on, scraping the sides of the bowl is nearly impossible. However, with that said, the mixer is sturdy and unless planned obsolescence is part of Cuisinart's marketing strategy, my mixer will probably be around longer than I!

I received my Magimix for Christmas 2006. I LOVE it! Having three different sized bowls is such a benefit on several levels. The first is obvious--no washing inbetween. Another is smallest bowl. It's great for chopping small quantities, for making Hollandaise Sauce or anything else in small amounts. Although I don't have young children, it would probably be excellent for homemade baby food. With large bowls, when one makes small quantities, most of it ends up on the sides of the bowl, or it just doesn't get processed correctly because the blades don't reach it. In addition, the "extras" that you get with it are real bonuses!
