If your looking for a good carving fork, look no further. Save yourself the hassle and just buy a good one to start with. This one has a nice weight and comfortable feel to it. It has very sharp, tapered tines and it doesn't take much effort to sink it in to a roast, and it's tapered shape reduces the tendency for the roast to get stuck on the fork when repositioning. As a pro chef this is one carving fork I couldn't be without.

Wusthof Classic Wide-Blade Chef's Knife
Wusthof Classic Wide-Blade Chef's Knife :
Designed for chopping or slicing on a cutting board, the
chef's knife has a rigid blade to absorb impact
with a slight curve that enhances balance and prevents
food from clinging. The heft of a chef's knife is
intended to let gravity do most of the work. Have at
least two of different lengths to handle the full range
of food sizes. And because a firm, comfortable grip is
essential, choose sizes that conform to your hand. Both
the 8" and 10" knife gives you extra help: its
wider blade is great for chopping large quantities of
onions, celery, or peppers and for transferring the
pieces to cooking pot or salad bowl. About Wusthof
Classic: Precision-forged blades of Wusthof's
own high-carbon, stain-resistant steel alloy, for a
lasting edge that is easy to resharpen. Distinctive
bolster prevents your hand from slipping onto the blade.
Handle is a virtually indestructible composite, buffed
by hand for a smooth finish and triple-riveted to the
full tang for optimum strength and balance. Dishwasher
safe, but hand-washing is recommended. Made in
Solingen, Germany.
I am a Pro chef and this is my third most used knife at work and at home. It is easy to clean and has a well balanced shape for less fatigue on the hand and wrist. This knife is a close second to my Classic Santoku and my Gourmet Serrated Slicer as my favorite. It's only draw back is its weight. I have big hands and I'm about 6 foot so it doesn't bother me much, but in smaller hands it can be a little too much. The only thing I would change is that it has a solid edge, it would be my favorite if it had a hollow ground edge which would make slicing things like potatoes much easier. All in all, it is a sturdy knife and can handle just about anything the santoku and serrated can handle but it is a little slower than those two knives. This knife will please you with every cut.
Wusthof Classic Hollow-Ground Santoku : Similar to a butcher knife, the Japanese-style santoku knife is a multipurpose gem for slicing, cubing, or dicing. Available in 5" or 7", the distinctive hollow-ground edge that alternates scallops on both sides of the blade, and yields a smooth, clean cut. About Wusthof Classic: Precision-forged blades of Wusthof's own high-carbon, stain-resistant steel alloy, for a lasting edge that is easy to resharpen. Distinctive bolster prevents your hand from slipping onto the blade. Handle is a virtually indestructible composite, buffed by hand for a smooth finish and triple-riveted to the full tang for optimum strength and balance. Dishwasher safe, but hand-washing is recommended. Made in Solingen, Germany.
I am a Pro chef and this is my most used knife at work and at home. It is easy to clean, has a well balanced shape for less fatigue on the hand and wrist, and the hollow ground edge lets one slice and chop without as much food sticking to the blade. (Especially good for raw potatoes) This knife and my serrated slicer are my favorites with my Classic 10" Chef's knife a close second. This knife will not disappoint.

Wusthof Gourmet Super Slicer
Wusthof Gourmet Super Slicer : Extra-long,
10" narrow blade has a round tip and hollow-ground
scalloped edge to slice quickly without crushing or
tearing. Ideal for boneless meat or fish, a large,
crusty artisan loaf, or a basketful of summer tomatoes.
Unlike serrated edges, it can be resharpened using a
steel. About Wusthof Gourmet: A precision-stamped
blade of high-carbon stainless steel that sharpens
easily and holds its edge. Compression rivets securely
attach the high-impact handles to the full tang for
superior balance and maneuverability. Dishwasher safe,
but hand washing is recommended. Made in Solingen, Germany.
This is defiantly my second most favorite knife. (My favorite is my Wusthof Classic Santoku) If I could only have two knives it would be this one and the santoku. The serrated slicer has a perfect length that can handle anything from a medium sized roast to a small tomato. The only draw back I have noticed to the Gourmet Super Slicer is the hilt joint can get food stuck in it and it must have special attention during washing. (This is a problem I have noticed in all of the Gourmet series knives.) Realistically, this only adds a few seconds to the washing time, so I still think it is an awesome knife. Buy this knife or its equivalent in the Classic series which is easier to wash.
